私は2000~2001年までパリにある国際芸術都市 (Cité internationale des Arts) に滞在して回転回を制作した。この施設は海外から招聘された音楽・絵画・彫刻などの分野の芸術家がパリでの活動するために暮らすアーティスト・イン・レジデンスだ。滞在した部屋は窓を開けるとセーヌ川越しにノートルダム寺院を眺めることができた。このシリーズは国際芸術都市 (Cité internationale des Arts) 周辺の古いアパルトマンが建ち並ぶマレ地区の街角やセーヌ川の畔が舞台の回転回だ。
三脚上に４x５カメラを２台設置し、ステレオカメラの方法で撮影した。右のカメラは右回転、左のカメラは左回転となっている。２枚の写真を並べると立体写真として見ることが可能だが、並べることはしないでフィルムを重ねてプリントすると黒い回転体を中心にした渦が生まれた。

 

In this series of works, two cameras were set on a tripod to produce the same effect as a stereo camera.  The right camera was rotated clockwise and the left in opposite direction. They can create 3D image by lining up however images were superimposed instead, then printed.  As the result,  whirling movement emerged with the black spinning object at its center.
