この作品では光と時間を手掛りに写真を用いてエネルギーを視覚化することを試みた。まず、エネルギーとは何かと探した時にその源は「太陽」だということに気がついた。エネルギーの源である「太陽」を写真に取りこむためにはどうするかを実行する時に、綺麗に撮る必要はなく純粋に光と熱をフイルムに定着させることが必要だと考えた。そのためにはこれらの吸収を妨げてしまう原因であるレンズをはずして直接フイルムに伝わるようにピンホールカメラを手作りした。撮影当初は三脚の上にピンホールカメラを構えていただけだったが、ある時「もっと光を！もっとエネルギーを！」という気持ちが高まり、突然に自らが太陽に向かって歩み始めていた。下の写真は写真にエネルギーを取りこむために私がまっすぐに太陽に向かって進んだ痕跡だ。光が横に広がっている写真は日の出から日の入りまでの太陽を車で加速をして追いかけた記録となっている。

 

In this work I used light and time as keys to visualizing energy. First what is the energy?  My answer was the sun. Before I actually photographed the sun, there came an idea that to catch the image of pure light and heat on a film, quality is not that important.  So instead of an ordinary camera with a lens which I believed would interfere with catching these crucial elements, I made a pin-hole camera. Initially it was positioned on a tripod, however when shooting came to one point, urge to film more light and energy became so strong, I was actually walking toward the sun holding the camera. The photographs below are the trails I left behind of the straight march toward the sun to capture its energy on a film. The one with the light spreading horizontally was shot by chasing the sun from dawn to dusk with running car.
